One of the most beautiful and scenic cycling routes in the Gorenjska region runs through the shady forests and open grassy terrain at the foot of the south slope of Košuta, Slovenia's longest mountain.

Tržič - Jelendol - Medvodje - Košutnik - Pungrat - Šija - Kofce - Jelendol - Tržič
ROUTE DESCRIPTION
The starting point for cycling tours is in the city centre, opposite the Tržič bus station. Parking is possible in public parking areas (parking lots at the Municipality of Tržič, on Predilniška Road at the entrance to the city-BPT, at the Tržič Olympians Hall, along the street Za Mošenikom, among others).
Go through Tržič along the main road to the northeast (towards Lom and the Dovžan Gorge). At Slap continue straight through the Dovžan Gorge, where the road will start to climb towards Dolina. From Dolina to Jelendol, the route stays pleasantly level and cool, following the course of the Tržič Bistrica River. Below the Born Mansion in Jelendol, keep to the right, following the gravel road that runs along the valley towards Medvodje, where you turn left and ascend towards Košutnik. At the small hydroelectric plant, turn left towards Šija; after a short gentle climb there follows a steep ascent and then a pleasant part of the road through the forest to the turnoff for Pungrat/Šija. Turn right and after a kilometre and a half you will reach the picturesque mountain pasture of Pungrat, where you can get food and drink in summer. Continuing along the road towards Šija, you will soon reach the highest point of the tour, and you can treat yourself to a longer stop at Šija Scouts Hut. A logging trail takes you across Ilovica pasture towards Kofce pasture, where they are also happy to cater to the hungry and thirsty. The descent begins below Kofce Mountain Hostel straight down towards Ravne. At the bottom of the trail, turn left onto the forest road, along which you ride past the turnoff for Kal all the way to the crossroads with the forest road that leads to Šija. Turn right and descend towards Jelendol - finish with a descent through the Dovžan Gorge towards Tržič.
good to know
In the summer months the pastures are grazed by livestock, so be sure to close gates behind you and try not to disturb the animals by going too fast.
