Less than an hour from Ljubljana is a true mountain paradise beneath the north wall and magnificent screes of Begunjščica. And as the song says, we are drawn to this place again and again.
The mountain pastures below Košuta are connected by an easy marked hiking trail that runs along the foot of Košuta, the longest Slovenian mountain, right where the steep grassy slopes start to level out and gradually give way to woodland.
A marked mountain trail takes you along the glacially sculpted Lom Valley beneath the mighty north wall of Storžič, which from the northern, Tržič side projects a much starker image than from the southern side. Good thing that the trail ends in the warm shelter of Storžič Mountain Hostel.
Not far from the popular pasture Kofce, which lies beneath the mountain of Košuta, is the pasture Šija with its scouts' hostel and dairy. If you go by car to the pasture of Pungrat, you can hike to Šija even with small children and their grandmother and grandfather. There will be no lack of beautiful views during the hour-long walk.
