Kriška Gora Trail

The Križe Mountaineering Club invites you to take part in the Kriška Gora Trail on Saturday 29 May 2021. Competitors can choose between two distances:

Gams trail (11.5 KM, 1100 m elevation gain +/-)

Route description and profile

The start of the 11.5 km route is at 9 am in front of Gozd Mountain Refuge. The route follows marked hiking trails through the village of Gozd, then ascends towards Tolsti Vrh. Below Tolsti Vrh take the fork towards Mala Poljana, where the first refreshment stop is located. From Mala Poljana the route ascends to Tolsti Vrh, the highest point of the trail. From there on, you can descend in a relaxed stride along the ridge of Kriška Gora to the mountain hut of the same name, where food and drink are available. Then follow the steep trail that descends towards the valley, to the lower parking area below Gozd (called Prug), which is the lowest point of the Gams trail. From there it's just a short ascent to the finish which, like the start, is located in front of Gozd Mountain Hut.

Muflon trail (20 KM, 1800 m elevation gain +/-)

Route description and profile

The start of the 20 km route is at 9 am in front of Gozd Mountain Refuge. The route follows marked hiking trails through the vilage of Gozd, then ascends towards Tolsti Vrh. Below Tolsti Vrh take the fork towards Mala Poljana, where the first refreshment stop is located. From Mala Poljana descend to the valley towards the small village of Povlje, the lowest point along the 20 km trail. From here you will need to ascend again for a beautiful view. Start with an ascent towards Javornik mountain pasture, then cross the slope of Poljana, first to Velika Poljana, then to Mala Poljana, where you can have refreshments. From there on, you follow the same route as for the 11.5 km trail. Ascend to Tolsti Vrh, the highest point of the trail. From there on, you can descend in a relaxed stride along the ridge of Kriška Gora to the mountain hut of the same name, where food and drink are available. Then follow the steep trail that descends towards the valley, to the lower parking area below Gozd (called Prug). From there it's just a short ascent to the finish which, like the start, is located in front of Gozd Mountain Hut. 

The routes will be marked off with tape. Where needed volunteers will direct competitors at intersections. Kilometre markers will NOT be posted.

TIME LIMIT: GAMS and MUFLON to the finish is 6 hours. After this time has elapsed, competitors become hikers/runners and must obey all road, traffic and other regulations, and the organizer is not obligated to wait for them at the finish.
