Festivities in the heart of the Karawanks

LUKA BASI´S CONCERT AT GORENJSKA PLAŽA

As soon as we enter the time of festivities, we will all desire hot rhythms of one of the most popular Slovenian singers, Luka Basi. He will take us to warmer places with his hits in the amphitheatre of Gorenjska Plaža on Friday, the first of December starting at 9 P.M. NICHOLAS´S LIGHTNING AND SANTA´S MAILBOX

The traditional switching on of the festive lights in the town in the heart of the Karawanks, as some like to call Tržič, will take place on the 5^th of December, on the eve of St. Nicholas Day. The festivities will start on Trg Svobode (Freedom Square) at 5 P.M. with a performance of a Vocal Group Bejazzy. Both, the young and the elderly, will have fun visiting various workshops, holiday stands and attending different concerts. There definitely won´t be lack of food and drink. As the name itself says, St. Nicholas will also be present, maybe even a Krampus, if there will be any naughty children.

This year, Santa´s mailbox will premiere the event. All children will be able to write their wishes to Santa and the letters will be exclusively delivered to Santa´s home in the North Pole. All the children, that will send the letter, will receive a certificate saying that the Santa received their wishes.

This magical evening will conclude the performance of Severa Gjurin.

Holiday suggestions for aficionados of culture:

• The Tržič Museum has received two Valvasor Awards and is one of Slovenia's best museums. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 A.M. to 6 P. M.
• Tekec Nativity Scene is on view from 25^th of December to 6^th of January every day from 9 A.M.  to 7 P.M. During other times of the year it can be seen by previous appointment.
• During the Christmas season the people of the villages of Sebenje, Žiganja Vas and Breg ob Bistrici display nativity scenes in their yards and gardens. Walk through the villages and try to find all the unique arrangements.
• On the 22^nd and 23^rd of December, there is a Live nativity scene under the village´s linden tree near the church of St. Ulrich in Žiganja vas.

Holiday suggestions for enthusiasts of outdoor recreation:

• The ice rink in Ravne offers free recreational skating Monday to Friday from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and during school holidays from 10 A.M. to noon and from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M from 24^th of November to 28^th of January of 2024.
• Enliven a winter ascent to one of the mountain huts with a descent by sled, on a sunny winter day or long evening in the light of a headlamp.
• The Tržič area is also a kingdom for fantastic ski touring – from easy routes suitable for everyone to more challenging ones requesting an alpine skiing experience.
